World cup cricket is one tournament that keeps all fans at the edge of their seats. This is one of the most keenly awaited and widely competed tournaments in the history of the game. A team can take part and win all other major tournaments, but world cup cricket is the only tournament in the field of cricket that will give them the tag of being world champions. World cup cricket event that is held after every four years is organized by cricket governing body, International Cricket council better known in cricketing circles as ICC.
The first world cup tournament was organized in the year 1975. The event was organized by ICC and was held in England, the country that is considered to be the home of cricket. The world cup cricket that year was won by the West Indies and Australia finished as the runners up. Till date, 8 world cup tournaments have been held and each world cup cricket threw up some surprise or the other for fans. The 9th ICC world cup cricket will be held in the West Indies in the month of March in 2007.
Already a buzz has begun in cricketing circles about who will win the title and who will not. Well, all of us have our own favorites and like to believe that only our team is fully equipped to lift the world cup cricket. England has hosted the event more than two times, but has never managed to win the title. This time around, the English team like all other teams will be putting their efforts towards winning the title. After all, every team likes to be called the world champions and there is no exception to this fact.
Australia is the only team to have won the world cup cricket three times. On the two previous occasions, they have been crowned champions and they are eager to win it this time and make it three in a row. This would be a huge achievement for the team and the record can go on to stay for a long time, if they do manage it. Right now, everyone is predicting Australia to win the tournament based on their recent player and team performance. All ardent supporters of Australia will surely like their team to win the event and once again become world cup cricket champions.
India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the three teams that have won world cup cricket only once. These teams would certainly like to change the records and win the coveted trophy once gain this time in the West Indies. All these countries have players of world class quality in their line up and if all of them perform to their potential in the tournament, no on can stop them from winning the title. However, we all know that it is crucial for every team member to perform consistently well to win the cup and this is what is found to be lacking in most of the teams.
West Indies being the host of world cup cricket has many advantages to its name like crowd support, favorable weather and ground conditions. We will have to wait and see if the team is able to make full use of these advantages and win the trophy. Only time will tell.

Tendulkar: Chennai 100 my best
Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar, on Thursday, rated the century he scored in Chennai against England that helped India chase 387 runs in the fourth innings soon after the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai as the best of his career.

Sachin Tendulkar, who has played in different eras since his debut in 1989, today rated the current Indian batting as the best line-up he has been part of.
“I would definitely say so,” Tendulkar said in reply to a query in the post-match conference.
Tendulkar, who has played alongside the likes of Kapil Dev, Navjyot Singh Sidhu, Mohammad Azaruddin, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, believes the present Indian batting under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and comprising Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir was the best line-up of the country.
“We got almost five or six guys who can clear the ropes at will. If you have a good four or five overs in a row, we could end up scoring 50 plus runs. At the back of mind we know that with such an explosive line-up no target is impossible,” said the veteran of 425 ODIs after contributing unbeaten 163 in India’s 58-run win in the third one-dayer against New Zealand.
India scored 392 for four against New Zealand in the third one-dayer to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Asked if he had changed his approach to the game, Tendulkar said “it depends on the momentum”.
“When (Virender) Sehwag is batting, obviously one guy is taking more chances than the other. So it is sensible to hang back a bit and let him play the big shots and rotate the strike,” he said. “Attacking the ball being his strength, we have worked out a strategy which has worked so far. When I am striking the ball well, I will be playing my shots. It is not that I am looking to block. If I get a loose ball in the initial part of the innings, I will put it away,” he explained.
But Tendulkar was not too pleased with the Indian bowling.

“In some patches we bowled well. I am quite sure the bowlers will have a meeting and try to figure what went wrong and what has to be done,” he said.
“In a high-scoring match like this the batsmen will throw their bat around and take that extra bit of chance. The bowlers had a bad day. But towards the end I think we could have done a little better.” He said the batting powerplay had swung the momentum in India’s favour.
“It was at that point in the innings to make their off-spinner (Jeetan Patel) bowls towards the end and to change New Zealand’s plan. I am sure their fast bowlers were caught off guard. The powerplay changed the momentum of the game.” He said he would regard this a very important innings.
“At one stage, we did not get too many runs. But they way we timed it and built the momentum it was satisfying. I would regard this as a very important innings.” On not being able to score a one-day hundred here before this innings, Tendulkar said: “I started opening in 1994 here and got close to scoring a hundred around that period. The next tour was actually 2002-03 where I missed out on a few matches because of an ankle injury. I have not played that many games here. I got close to scoring hundreds here, but didn’t manage to. It is better late than never.” The master batsman admitted the thought of scoring a double hundred did cross his mind.
“Towards the end I was hopeful that I could get a double hundred if I could stay there till the 50th over. It was in the vicinity,” said Tendulkar.
Then why did he decided to retire? “In the previous game I got hit in my abdomen by O’Brien and the muscle was quite sore. When I was batting with 65-70, I started feeling a stiffness in that area. But towards the latter half of my innings I started getting a twitch and it kept getting worse. And I knew that I was effectively damaging it and I had reached a stage when I couldn’t go on.”
Asked if he would be fit for the fourth ODI at Hamilton on March 14, Tendulkar said it could be decided tomorrow.
“We will have to wait and see. We are going to have a look at it tomorrow.”
Tendulkar also rated his century as a very important innings. “At one stage, we did not get too many runs. But they way we timed it and built the momentum it was satisfying. I would regard this as a very important innings.”
Asked if India were at risk of losing today’s game, Tendulkar said: “In a high scoring match like this if a couple of guys go berserk and if the rest play around them one can achieve impossible targets. The way McCullum and Ryder batted they looked very much in control, but we came in the game quite well.”
He said it was his love for the game and care about playing for India that keeps him going.
“It is just love for the game that keeps me motivated. It is as simple as that. I care about cricket. I care about playing for India. The rest of the things come naturally. Once you these two prime things are on your mind then the rest follows on its own.
“I never have the problem of getting motivated before I walk in to play. It (motivation) has always been there,” said Tendulkar, who retired hurt after making 163.
Is getting 50 ODI hundreds an achievable target? “I am enjoying the game. I just want to go out and enjoy it and not have targets. While doing that if it happens well and good. The most important factor is to keep enjoying my game and keep winning games for India.”
Would he want to play the 2001 World Cup? “As I said earlier I want to enjoy my game. The World Cup is still some time away. At this moment I want to concentrate on this tour. We will see what happens later,” he said.
