There is unlikely to be a spot for England’s Ravi Bopara, who has fallen out of favour with King’s XI. Shaun Marsh, his former opening partner, seems to have dropped off the radar, too. Instead, Adrian Barath, the West Indian, has been drafted in. Oddly he batted out of position, at No 5, last time against Delhi. Really he should open.

Deccan produced a sensational turnaround to win against Bangalore last time so should stick with the same XI. That means no room for Chaminda Vaas or Kemar Roach. Besides, King’s are a poor side – they are not bottom without foundation – and some people seem to be getting carried away with three wins in the last four.

Deccan are buzzing and they are a team who don’t know when they are beaten. In a must-win situation against Bangalore their togetherness and nerve was admirable. More importantly for this contest, they are likely to pair Adam Gilchrist and Herschelle Gibbs at the top of the order.

If the pair can get off to a fast start, which seems likely against the worst bowling outfit in the tourny, then King’s could go to pieces in the field.

Rajasthan Royals will take on Deccan Chargers  today at Ahmedabad. Rajasthan have a habit of belying their critics’ gloomy predictions, and it seems they are on their way to do so again. After three consecutive defeats culminating in the embarrassing capitulation to Royal Challengers Bangalore, their skeptics had written them off. However, Shane Warne’s boys have lifted themselves off the bottom of the table on the back of two straight wins. Also, they are finally getting the performances out of their foreign players: Shaun Tait and Michael Lumb had their best match of the tournament against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday, and Adam Voges is proving to be a canny pick.

Their victories, though, have come against two of the strugglers in the tournament – Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders. The match against an in-form Deccan Chargers should be a stiffer test, and if they pass that they will only be two points off the top spot. One of their big challenges will be to keep a well-oiled Deccan batting unit, which has piled on at least 170 in each of their past three games, quiet. One of Deccan’s worries is that the leading wicket-taker in the second season of the IPL, RP Singh, is having a rough time in this tournament, though his troubles have been masked by the form of Chaminda Vaas.

Players to watch out for

Sachin Tendulkar: The master hasn’t done anything wrong in this current season as a captain. His moves whether it’s in batting order or the change of bowlers in the middle overs, everything has worked in his favor so far. The little genius looks quite determined to prove a point to his critics who always had doubt about his captaincy. His only concern would be slow over rate, if that continues to happen in this game as well then that could possibly lead to one match ban in the next match against CSK at Chennai. For his batting Cricages team is too short in stature to comment. Master haven’t and won’t dissapoint his fans. Period.

Harbhajan Singh: Has thrashed the Chargers in the previous game. The aggressive Sardar is in great form and if he continues to do that in this match too then MI would easily book their place in the semis after the match. His rivalry against Andrew Symonds would again be a treat to watch. The other Sardar (Jaskaran) and Roach would be hoping that they don’t have to pay the penalty of their rivalry like it happened in the previous match.

Adam Gilchrist: The captain has been out of form since the 2nd match of the tournament. A lot depends on him as to how the Chargers will play in this game. Their start depends lot on him and if he doesn’t play well again then there are trouble times for the Chargers. The defending champions would be virtually out of the tournament if they don’t win this one & the champion batsman would try his best to change the fortunes of this team.

Rohit Sharma: Is not playing upto his potential. Though he will be playing in Mumbai, his home ground, it would be tough for him to feel at home. The Mumbai crowd did not welcome Yuvraj and Chawla (who grabbed the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar). When you’re out of form and have to face the toughest team with the most toughest crowd, it becomes very difficult to perform even up to your potential.
